Tracey Towers
Asked to design improvements to the interior public spaces at Tracy Towers in the Bronx, we looked for cues from architect Paul Rudolph’s original planning designs, and softened the scale of the existing spaces through the use the introduction of new lighting, color murals and new finishes.
The traditional styled mailrooms were replaced with freestanding mailbox cases freeing up lobby space and improving security. The connecting barrel vaulted space between the two tower lobbies was used to incorporate freestanding mailbox cases as well. Large suspended light fixtures illuminate the restored terrazzo floors as cove lighting gently washes the original concrete vaulted ceilings.
In addition to architectural improvements, physical improvements are being implemented. They include new roofing and windows, modernized boiler plant and garage and public corridor lighting improvements.
