1221 Avenue of the Americas Park
Originally built in 1970, this urban park required major rehabilitation work. As part of the rehabilitation project, the park was redesigned and a few of the original design elements including the water wall and its cylinder, which provides access through the waterfall, were updated.
The original cylinder was fabricated with curved glass supported by a heavy bronze frame. The new installation utilizes leading edge acrylic technology, enabling the dramatic increase in the transparency of the cylinder and the pedestrian’s experience of the sensation of walking thru the water which acts as a threshold, leaving behind the sounds of the city for a moment.
Other updated elements included new glass and stainless steel railings, new granite pavers, birch trees, aluminum seating and a feature wall of high-pressure laminate panels supported by an aluminum support system.
