1221 Avenue of the Americas
Responding to the existing lobby's dark and forbidding interior, the lobby's central core walls were re-surfaced with warm French limestone and lit continuously to impact the visual experience as one approaches the building from the street. Within the south hall, a back-lit, translucent glass frieze was introduced to balance the daylight received in the north hall.
Utilizing the vast volume of space, architectural elements were dramatically placed into the lobby. These elements include the entrance canopy, back-lit glass frieze, and the information kiosk with its suspended conical sculpture.
